Walking
Home Rule, at 1807 14TH ST NW, is located in the Mid-City. A commercial district well named for its central location to most of Washington. Thus, the store is a quick and scenic walk from almost any location.
A good walking approach is either North or South on 14Th ST NW or East/West on "S" ST.
We are just minutes from the neighborhoods of Shaw,Logan,Dupont,Adams Morgan and Columbia Heights.
Home Rule is also a quick 20 minute walk from the central downtown business district/convention center.
So put on a pair of comfortable shoes (don't forget a backpack for those unexpected purchases) and head out to enjoy walking one of the most historic and dynamic neighborhoods in the District.
Driving
From VA - take the 14Th St bridge and continue north on 14Th ST. The shop is 7 blocks north of Thomas Circle.
From MD - take NY Ave to 15TH, or either 13TH or 16Th into the city then a turn on S to 14TH.
Parking
There is two hour metered parking on 14Th ST from 7:00am until 6:30pm Mon-Sat. No meter fees on Sundays and holidays. There are no rush hour restrictions on our block of 14Th.
It is also possible to park without a residential parking sticker for up to two hours between 7:00am and 8:30pm on the residential side streets of S or T that intersect with 14TH -- but watch for street cleaning signs. There is no time restriction nor street cleaning on Sat and Sunday.
There is a public parking lot Between T and U on the west side of the street one block up from the store and there is also public parking two blocks from the store in the Reeves building on the NW corner of 14Th and U.
Biking
There is now a bike lane heading west on R from Florida Ave and a bike lane heading to T on New Hampshire Ave. If I am heading east to 14Th I usually take T or Q because they are both one way streets. There are bike racks in front of 1811 14Th ST -- a few yards from the store.
Flying
National Airport of course!
No matter how you choose to arrive, make sure you check out the historic homes of Shaw,Logan and Dupont Circle. These three vintage D.C. neighborhoods along with the 14Th and U ST African American Heritage Trail converge right our little slice of the world.
